Creepy and yucky, cute and cuddly, soft and prickly, shy and stately….from a child’s perspective animals come in all shapes and sizes. Monday, May 10, the Children’s Chorus of Collin County will present a spring concert entitled, “Animals! Animals! Animals!” The entire concert will be songs and stories about our furry, feathery, slithering friends from the animal kingdom. The concert will begin at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano. Tickets are $8.00 for adults and free admission for children. Tickets may be purchased at the door.
This 55 voice professional children’s chorus, representing the entire Collin County area, has performed at local concert venues as well as New York City’s, Carnegie Hall. This year’s concert not only features the chorus but also represents some of the finest story-tellers in our area. Alex Alford, a member of the Chorus, will recite his story, “Why Dogs Sniff Each Others Tails”. Kim Bond, a deaf story teller, will recite her story, “A Hearing Dog”, through sign language with the assistance of an interpreter. Mayra Diaz, a local professional story-teller, will recite, “Why Bear Has a Stumpy Tail”.
When asked what inspired the concept of this concert, Janie Oliver, Artistic Director for the Chorus said, “We live in a world filled with wonderful creatures, great and small. Some we love, some we fear, but we are endlessly interested in and fascinated by all of them. I think you will sense that the music in this concert reflects the nature of the animals, as in the playful piece about monkeys, and the more sinister, stalking rhythms of the tiger.”
The Prestonwood Chapel is located at 6801 W. Park Blvd in Plano. For additional information about the concert or to find additional information regarding the Children’s Chorus, visit www.childrenschorusofcollincounty.org. |
